99 Cents Only Stores is a premier deep-discount retailer that primarily carries name-brand consumable and general merchandise. With more than 350 stores in four states and two distribution centers in California and Texas, 99 Cents Only Stores became the leading extreme value retail chain in the Western United States.

 
 
 

Rebrand — Identity System

99 Cents Only Stores is currently going through a rebrand and I had the chance to help develop, transition, and execute the new brand identity system during my time at Meaningful Works.

 

Rebrand — Store and Experience Design

In the process of the rebrand, store openings that occur are also being transformed to align with the new branding. I was in charge of developing the new design assets to be used in the new stores under the new brand guidelines. Those assets include window graphics, signages, pricing system, register assets, uniforms, bags, grand opening promotional assets, and more. I also worked with a production company to ensure all the assets were being produced and installed correctly to meet the deadlines.

#GO99BANANAS Experience

During those store grand openings, a pop up activation experience called GO 99 Bananas also took place. The goal of the event was to promote the produce section of 99 Cents Only Stores through their produce gateway product, bananas. During the experience, customers are given free banana strawberry smoothies and a recipe card, encouraged to take photos with the environment set up and share it on social media, interact with the banana dancers, enter shopping sprees, and play games. I was responsible for designing, setting up, and running the experience.

99 Day

To celebrate 9/9 day (September 9th) in 2018, 99 Cents Only Stores and Meaningful Works came together to break a Guinness World Record, renew marriage vows, and more. I participated by helping the knolling event, participating in the hero promotional video, and producing print and digital assets to promote the day.
